Situation: The steep K6 cut had potential for landslip, and was in an earthquake zone, and an engineering design for slope retention was required. Solution: Instant Screw Piling was contracted for design services only. The screw pile anchors had to hold the face of the excavation beyond the slip circle. A technique was devised using four 6-metre benches, excavating from the top down and anchoring, before proceeding with the next bench

Main contractor Bam Contractors awarded the piling and pile testing element of the above mentioned works to Taranto Ltd. Site investigation reports indicated poor soil conditions throughout the proposed site location of the new grain store and subsequently the new grain store required a piled foundation solution consisting of No driven precastconcrete piles to support a steel reinforced concrete floor slab and connecting wall structures. Following discussions with both the main contractor and the Consulting Engineer it was agreed that Taranto Ltd single bar mm 2 precast driven pile was best suited to the project as it was the most cost effective and met with all design requirements and site conditions illustrated within the SI reports. During piling works over 12,m of driven piles were installed with the use of 2 No series piling rigs.
